Arrested person was identified as S. Mugilan, a resident of Tirupattur town.
A 21-year-old youth was arrested by Tirupattur Town police on Saturday for a brutal attack on a woman with an iron rod for resisting a robbery attempt by him at her house the previous day.
Police said the arrested person was identified as S. Mugilan, a resident of Tirupattur town. He has petty criminal cases on him. Initial inquiry revealed that leather merchant Bashir, 44 and his wife Reshma, 38 were living in Arif Nagar that comes within Tirupattur municipality limits. Around noon on Friday, Mugilan quietly entered the house where Reshma was alone.
Police said that Mugilan allegedly tried to snatch her gold chain, and Reshma cried for help. Immediately, he hit her on the head with an iron rod. He fled the spot with Reshma’s cycle that was parked outside the house.
After hearing Reshma’s cry, neighbours rushed to the spot where they saw her bleeding profusely. Immediately, they rushed Reshma to Government Taluk Hospital in the town where she is under treatment.
Based on the alert, Tirupattur Town police inspected the spot. Special team searched the suspect Mugilan at a public place and found him at the bus terminus. Police arrested him and lodged at sub-jail in Tirupattur town. A probe is underway.
