A seven-year-old girl has been admitted in hospital after she was bitten by a dog- a Pitbull- on Sunday in Tondiarpet.

Police sources said seven year old girl was returning home after going out with her father Raja and mother. When they came to their house, the dog belonging to the house owner Jothi pounced on her. The dog bit her on the left side of face and her father managed to pull her away from its grasp after a struggle.

Later, the child was taken to Government Stanley Hospital where she was admitted for treatment. The doctors have advised plastic surgery for her. Based on a complaint, R.K.Nagar Police registered a case against the owner of dog.

A senior official with Greater Chennai Corporation said the dog, a Pitbull, was not licensed with the civic body, but was vaccinated by the owner. “So, far, the dog has been been noted to be calm and not ferocious. The animal has now been sent to the Animal Birth Control centre in Pulianthope. The Tamil Nadu Animal Welfare Board has been informed and they will take a decision on further accommodation of the dog. Since this breed has been banned by the State government, necessary action regarding returning the animal to the owners will also be taken by the Board,” he added.
