The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday (August 5, 2025) issued a heavy rainfall alert for Hyderabad and eight other districts in Telangana, warning of intense showers and thunderstorms through the evening and night.

According to the IMD’s afternoon forecast released at 1 p.m., heavy rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places in Hyderabad, Medchal Malkajgiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, and Jogulamba Gadwal districts. Additionally, the IMD has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds in all 33 districts of the state.

In a separate nowcast alert issued at 1.07 p.m., the IMD observed cumulonimbus cloud formation in the northern and northwestern parts of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) area. “Moderate to heavy rain is very likely to occur this evening or night in Medchal Malkajgiri and Hyderabad districts. Rangareddy district may also receive moderate rainfall,” the alert stated.
