After ordering a probe into the alleged lapses committed by 22 medical staff at a government hospital in Anakapalli district last month, Andhra Pradesh Minister for Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare Satya Kumar Yadav has ordered an inquiry into similar allegations made against another 11 government doctors.
According to a release issued by the department on Tuesday, the Minister issued the orders after going through a report submitted by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) that charged former Gudivada Area Hospital Superintendent, doctors and nurses of dereliction of duties in 2020.
The ACB conducted a surprise inspection at the hospital in February 2020, after receiving complaints. During the inspection, the team found that sub-standard food was being served to the patients, cleanliness was not up to the mark, gloves and medical kits were lying scattered on the hospital premises. The teams also pointed to errors in patient details and discrepancies in registering stocks of medicines.
Taking a serious note of these irregularities, the Minister ordered inquiry against the 11 government doctors. This is the second case that has emerged in two weeks. Both the cases —Anakapalli and Gudivada—are from 2020, and this reflects poorly on the supervision of government hospitals during the previous regime, the Minister said.
