As part of the project, the existing ‘Malamuzhaki Vezhambal’ watchtower and the ‘Kuravan Kurathi’ sculpture will also be renovated. “The revenue from tourists will be shared between the District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) and the Tourism department in a 60:40 ratio,” said an official. The project will be executed by the Department of Tourism and will be completed within eight months.
10,000 visitors a day
Tourism Minister P.A. Mohamed Riyas said Kerala Tourism was witnessing a surge, with the footfall clocking all-time high numbers. “Hill tourism is one of our highly promising segments, which will receive a further boost with the development of facilities at Ramakkalmedu. The site offers a panoramic overview of a vast swath of verdant land, clustered with villages and small towns in Tamil Nadu across the State borders,” said Mr. Riyas.
According to Tourism department officials, around 10,000 visitors come to Ramakkalmedu daily, with the nearby wind farm being a major attraction.
