Andhra Pradesh would be transformed into a dump yard-free State in the next three years, said Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Minister P. Narayana while addressing the media after inspecting the Allipuram dump along with the officials in the 9th division of Nellore city on Friday.
Mr. Narayana said, “Steps have been taken to make the State garbage-free and green destination by October 2, 2025. The previous government had left a legacy garbage of of 85 lakh tonnes. Approximately 26,000 tonnes is being removed per day. So far, about 65 lakh tonnes of garbage has been removed.”
“If necessary, steps will be taken to remove 30,000 tonnes of garbage per day. The State government will take strict action to prevent garbage at dumping yards by next month (September). There are no dumping yards in the urban areas like Guntur and Vijayawada as two waste-to-energy plants are functioning,” he said.
Speaking about Nellore, he said, “Presently, there are dumping yards at Allipuram and Donthali. A waste-to-energy plant will be set up at Donthali to process solid waste generated in the city. Tenders will be called soon for setting up a new waste-to-energy plant.”
