Police on Thursday (August 7, 2025) shot dead Manikandan, the main accused in Tuesday night’s murder of Special Sub-Inspector Shanmugavel at Gudimangalam village in Tiruppur district.
Police said Manikandan was shot at in “self defence” when he attempted to escape after stabbing a Sub-Inspector while being taken to the scene of crime.
Police sources said the accused was shot near Upparu stream near Chikkanur by the SI Saravanakumar in self-defence. He died on the spot.
The body of Manikandan was shifted to the Udumalpet Government Hospital for post-mortem.
Manikandan, his brother Thangapandian and father Moorthy had allegedly murdered the SSI when he had attempted to intervene in a quarrel.
While his father and brother had surrendered in the office of Superintendent of Police on Wednesday (August 6, 2025), Manikandan had gone underground.
Six special teams were formed to track him.
