Andhra Pradesh TRANSCO undertook projects costing about ₹12,000 crore: Chief Secretary Vijayanand

As part of its efforts to strengthen the power transmission network in order to meet the burgeoning electricity demand and ensure reliable and uninterrupted power supply to all categories of consumers, the Andhra Pradesh TRANSCO undertook projects worth more than ₹12,000 crore, of which seven projects costing nearly ₹156 crore were commissioned recently. 

“A total of 62 projects are in progress at a total cost of ₹8,131 crore, projects costing approximately ₹364 crore were newly awarded and a sum of ₹3,614 crore has been earmarked for 31 upcoming projects under various government schemes,” said Andhra Pradesh Government Chief Secretary and Special CS (Energy) K. Vijayanand.

Addressing a review meeting on power transmission infrastructure projects being implemented in Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, and Kadapa zones, on Thursday (July 10, 2025), Mr. Vijayanand issued directions for strict adherence to project timelines, especially in high-priority areas such as industrial corridors and urban clusters. 

He directed officials to undertake daily monitoring of critical projects at the field level and submit weekly progress reports. He also directed that special focus should be laid on completing projects in the Andhra Pradesh-CRDA region considering its strategic importance to the State’s development. 

In addition, he stressed that third-party quality checks and regular audits should be conducted to ensure that the construction works adhered to the highest standards and safety norms.

The seven transmission projects that were commissioned include a bus reactive power management system, a 220 KV DC line from Gunadala substation to the Nunna substation with monopoles, and some 220 KV lines.

The CS said that 62 transmission projects including the augmentation of ICT capacity, new substations and lines worth ₹8,131 crore were under various stages of execution and they include important works such as the diversion of 400 kV and 220kV lines within the Andhra Pradesh-CRDA region. 

“A.P. – TRANSCO has recently placed orders for five transmission projects costing ₹364 crore and tenders are being floated for 31 works costing ₹3,614 crore under various government schemes,” Mr. Vijayanand stated.
