Tamil Nadu’s power utilities have been advised to prepare a detailed plan for strengthening the power distribution system.
Recently, the Southern Regional Power Committee (SRPC) held a special virtual meeting to discuss reliable power supply issues with respect to the power sector in the region.
SRPC has advised the State to prepare a detailed plan with the load growth projection for 5-10 years in co-ordination with Tamil Nadu Transmission Corporation (Tantransco) and submit a proposal to the authorities concerned as well as the State Electricity Regulatory Commission.Â
It has also suggested that proposals for renewable energy evacuation could be given for approval under Green Energy Corridor projects.
The Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Ltd. (TNPDCL) said there are 9,973 11 kV and 22 kV feeders in operation. It also said the modernisation of substations is under progress.
Central Electricity Authority also said Tamil Nadu being disaster prone, a disaster resilient system needs to be adopted up to 0-50 km from the coastline, such as underground cabling, indoor substation, etc. TNPDCL stated that it is being taken into account.
