A Delhi court on Thursday (August 7, 2025) allowed Tahawwur Rana, 26/11 Mumbai terror attack accused, to make a one-time phone call to his family members.

Special Judge Chander Jit Singh of Patiala House Court allowed Rana to speak to his family after he had sought permission for the same, citing that he wished to change his lawyer and wanted suggestions from his family on the same.

Rana is currently being represented by advocate Piyush Sachdeva from Delhi Legal Services Authority.

The authorities of Tihar Jail, where Rana has been lodged since May, had opposed his request to speak to his family, citing security concerns.

The court, in the past, had allowed him to make a one-time phone call to his family.

Extradited by the United States to India on April 10, 64-year-old Rana is facing trial in connection with the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, which left more than 166 people dead.

The National Investigative Agency (NIA), probing the case, had charged him with the terror attack conspiracy with David Headley, the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) mastermind who carried out the planning and reconnaissance operations for the Mumbai attacks at the behest of LeT chief Hafiz Saeed.
