The School of Design and the Department of Student Affairs at Presidency University marked the 11th National Handloom Day on Thursday.
Commemorating the Swadeshi Movement of 1905, the event featured an exhibition of handwoven sarees and artifacts from across India — from West Bengal’s Jamdani to Tamil Nadu’s Kanchipuram, Telangana’s Pochampally Ikat.
The showcase honoured the artistry and dedication of Indian weavers, emphasising the cultural and economic value of handlooms. Students took part in the event by promoting indigenous textiles through creative displays, advocating for sustainable fashion and rural empowerment.
