The Board exam for Class 11 has been scrapped from the current academic year 2025-26, Tamil Nadu’s Minister for School Education Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi announced in Chennai on Friday (August 8, 2025). This is as per the State Education Policy – School Education released by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin at Anna Centenary Library in Chennai.

School Education Department Secretary B. Chandra Mohan told reporters that the decision to do away with the public exam for Class 11 students would come into effect from this academic year.

In 2017, the then AIADMK government in the State decided to conduct board examinations for Class 11 students from that academic year. Condemning the move then, Mr. Stalin, who was the Opposition leader, had said conducting public examinations for Classes 10, 11, and 12 consecutively would have an adverse impact on the mental health of students.
