The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Kerala has reconstituted its politically pivotal core committee ahead of the local body polls and 2026 Assembly elections in the State.

A party insider said the focus was on inducting young blood, ensuring caste, community, and minority representation, to re-energise the leadership to establish better community relations in the run-up to the polls.

He said BJP help desks in districts would catalyse the party’s drive to ensure voter turnout, registration of new voters, its knock-on-doors campaign, and neighbourhood connect.

For one, the BJP has dropped veteran leaders O. Rajagopal and A.N. Radhakrishnan from the panel.

The expanded core committee includes newly inducted Rajya Sabha member C. Sadanandan, MP. The BJP has also inducted the party’s former president and Kannur veteran, C.K. Padmanabhan, into the leadership panel.

The other members are BJP State president Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Union Minister of State Suresh Gopi, MP, Union Minister of State for Fisheries George Kurian, MP, former BJP State president P.K. Krishnadas, V. Muraleedharan, Kummanam Rajasekharan, K. Surendran, A.P. Abdullakutty, Anil K. Antony, M.T. Ramesh, Sobha Surendran, S. Suresh, Anoop Antony, P. Sudheer, K.K. Aneeshkumar, Shone George, C. Krishnakumar, B. Gopalakrishnan, K. Soman and V. Unnikrishnan.

Kerala State is in charge of Prakash Javadekar, and the deputy in charge, Aparajita Sarangi, is a special invitee.

The reorganisation comes in the wake of accusations that Mr. Chandrasekhar had shaped the core committee to his will, allegedly without accommodating the factional interests of other influential leaders, including former State presidents.
