The Tambaram City Police on Thursday (August 7, 2025) destroyed 838.49 kg of seized ganja. The contraband was accumulated from various enforcement operations across Tambaram city. It was incinerated on the premises of a private firm at Thenmelpakkam in Chengalpattu district.
Further, a joint raid was conducted with officials from the Food Safety Department, to curb the menace of prohibited tobacco substances near educational institutions across the Tambaram city jurisdiction. With the primary objective of eliminating the illegal sale and distribution of tobacco products, multiple police teams were constituted and deployed to conduct simultaneous raids, said Tambaram City Police Commissioner Abhin Dinesh Modak in a press release.
As a result of this operation, a total of 238 kg of illicit tobacco products were seized and 40 cases were registered under Section 24(1) of COTPA, 2003, at various police stations under the Tambaram City limits. As many as 40 individuals involved in the illegal sale of tobacco were arrested and 40 shops were sealed by the competent authority.
