A festive atmosphere prevailed in Telugu households across the city as women celebrated ‘Varalakshmi Vratam’ on the third Friday of the auspicious Sravanam Masam. Special pujas were held at various Sri Mahalakshmi temples in the city.

Special pujas were performed at the Sri Kanaka Mahalakshmi temple at Burujupeta, Old Town, as part of the ongoing ‘Sravana Lakshmi’ pujas and the auspicious ‘Sravana Sukravaram’. The ‘Sravana Lakshmi’ puja commenced at 8.10 a.m. amidst the chanting of mantras and playing of the ‘nadaswaram’.

A total of 85 donors participated in the puja while another 225 devotees sent their names by post. Their names were read out during the pujas, and kumkuma and prasadam were sent to them as blessings.

Earlier in the morning, ‘Ksheerabhishekam’ was performed to the deity (Moolavirat) from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m.

Temple EO K. Shobarani, Assistant EO K. Rajendra Kumar, Supervisor T. Chalapathi Rao, along with priests and staff participated in the ceremonies.
