M.M. Saseendran, the accused in the ICU sexual assault case, was dismissed from service at the Government Medical College Hospital, Kozhikode, on Friday (August 8), after an internal investigation confirmed misconduct on his part.

After the incident that took place on March 18, 2023, in which he allegedly sexually assaulted a patient while she was still under anaesthesia after a surgery in the ICU of the hospital, Mr. Saseendran was suspended from service as part of the investigation. However, he continued to report for duty, which led to public outrage.

Mr. Saseendran was arrested in April 2023. Apart from him, five of his co-workers have also been listed as accused in the case for allegedly trying to persuade the survivor to change her statement and later threatening her.

The medical college Principal signed the dismissal order based on the recommendation of the hospital’s administrative wing.
