The Variety Hall Road police in Coimbatore have registered a case against a man who arranged a forged relationship certificate for an NRI medical aspirant.
Vellingiri, 50, of Madurai Veeran Kovil Street at Edayarpalayam in Coimbatore was booked for offences, including 336(3), 340(1) and 318 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The police said that an 18-year-old medical aspirant from Ponnaiahrajapuram had applied for an MBBS seat under the NRI quota, for which NEET score and participation in statewide counselling for the quota are required. He approached the accused, who is known to his father, in March this year for a relationship certificate that proves the relationship between the candidate and the NRI sponsor.
According to the police, the accused gave a forged relationship certificate and the boy applied for the medical seat with the same, believing it to be genuine. The accused allegedly charged ₹10,000 for the document. However, the Medical Selection Committee found the certificate a forged one and cancelled the application.
The medical aspirant lodged a complaint with the Variety Hall Road police, based on which a case was registered against Vellingiri.
