Owing to a minor damage to the panchaloha idol of Bhoodevi Thaayar, the scheduled jyeshtabhishekam of Sri Parthasarathi Perumal in Triplicane, Chennai, was not conducted on Saturday (August 9, 2025).
According to official sources, the flower bunch (poo chendu) held by the utsava idol had come loose. The issue came to light when the jewellery and vasthrams of the utsava idols were removed for the annual jyesthabhishekam that was scheduled to be held on Saturday. The abhishekam has since been cancelled, and will be held later.
A verification team from the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) department will now inspect the idol, after which repairs will be carried out by a sthapathi. The idol will be removed from the moolavar shrine, and balalayam (wherein the power of the deity will be drawn to a pot) performed, so that the repairs can be carried out. The entire process is called jadibhandhanam and will take at least a week.
A G.O. will be obtained as repairs are to be taken up on the ancient idol. However, darshan of Moolavar Sri Venkatakrishnan and other deities will continue as usual, sources said.
