The sleuths of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) arrested a staffer attached to the Labour Welfare Department on Friday (August 9, 2025) evening on charges of accepting a bribe.

Arumugam, a resident of Sithanur, had approached the Labour Welfare Office at Gorimedu to register his construction workers’ association. Junior assistant Balamurugan, 30, however, demanded a bribe of â‚č15,000 in exchange for the same.

Unwilling to pay the bribe amount, Mr. Arumugam approached the Salem DVAC officials. Based on their direction, on Friday evening, he handed over the bribe amount to Balamurugan at Sithanur Bus Stop. The DVAC officials caught him red-handed, and a case has been registered against him.
