India’s champion jockey Suraj Narredu etched his name in the history books by steering Fireblade, trained by Dylan Cunha, to a resounding victory in the Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Stayers at the prestigious Ascot racecourse on Saturday.

Representing the Asian Team as captain in the world’s foremost international jockeys’ competition, Narredu not only claimed individual glory but also helped his side to win the Shergar Cup with 68 points.

His triumph is of immense pride to the Indian racing fraternity as it marks a rare and celebrated achievement for an Indian jockey on British turf.

Adding flair to his historic moment, Narredu delighted the crowd by performing the trademark flying dismount — a celebratory gesture made famous by his idol, the legendary Frankie Dettori — in the winners’ enclosure.
