Absence of bus stop

The memorial of the former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam at Peykarumbu, Rameswaram is a place of tourist attraction. There is no bus stop at this point on the national highway leading to Rameswaram. There should be a full-fledged bus stop with seats to accommodate waiting passengers and with light facilities at night, beyond the shoulder of the NH opposite the memorial. The Defence Department, which has undertaken the responsibility of maintaining the memorial, should come forward to spend money on the construction bus stop. The State Transport Department should issue suitable instructions to halt all buses and pick up passengers at this point.

Library without facilities

Libraries are a storehouse of books. The Local Library Authority of Ramnad district, running the village libraries, has supplied enough books and furniture, but there is no room to keep them. No readers’ bench or desks, and space for the users to sit and read books. Branch Libraries at Ramanathapuram and Periapattinam wear a pathetic look. The authorities should take steps to provide comfort and dignity for the readers as well as for the books.
