Additional bus service

Thiyagaraja Nagar adjacent to Maharaja Nagar in Tirunelveli is turning into an important suburb of the city due to its exponential growth. It is occupied by many migrants from town junction and other districts due to the availability of many schools and other facilities. However, it has not been connected with frequent town buses.

Given the fact that it is an important suburb the authorities should take steps and extend adequate town buses to Tirunelveli junction, new bus stand through Maharaja Nagar.

Road hazard

The road adjacent to Agasthiyar Puthukulam in Kottaram was recently laid with gravel, but tar topping is yet to be completed. With the loose gravel scattered across, the surface of the road has become difficult for motorists to drive on and for pedestrians to walk along. The authorities concerned should take immediate action to complete the tar topping.

Extension of groyne

The arguments in extending the 300 metres groyne that is being constructed along Kanniyakumari coast to 500 metres is a valid request to protect the coastal villages from tidal erosion. The authorities in charge of the project must construct an extended groyne for safety of dwellings from natural disaster and spacious mooring of fishing boats.

Noise pollution

The public of Thazhakudy, especially living in the vicinity of the bus stand, is affected by the impact of noise pollution. The organisers of festivals, functions and meetings target the bus stand area to place the loud speakers. The quivering noise produced by the music played and public meetings mostly exceed the limit prescribed by the noise pollution control rules. The situation is a great disturbance not only to residents but also a hindrance to banks, post office, village office and other commercial outlets in the area. The officials should take immediate steps to save the public from ill effects of the noise pollution.

Traffic snarl near Tirunelveli GH

The north high ground road in front of the Tirunelveli Government Medical College and Hospital is always congested since the town buses stop at the entrance to board the passengers coming out of the hospital, instead of scheduled bus stops which are 100 metre away in the western direction. However, the bus stop has become the share auto stand where its drivers could take rest. The crucial issue should be addressed and a traffic regulating authority be deployed in the area.

Dangerous link road near Tenkasi Railway Station

Rail passengers are using the link road connecting the exit road from Tenkasi Railway Station down road as it is an easier and short route to enter, especially since the ongoing civil works at the main entry is blocking the free access. However, the deplorable condition of the link road is an eyesore, as it has become an open urination spot. The road has become increasingly filthy, littered with garbage and debris making it not only unhygienic but also a fall or collision risk for rail commuters and the public, as it is widely used by autos. What is most alarming is the presence of half open drain alongside the road. Several near miss incidents have already occurred and it is only a matter of time before a major mishap happens, if corrective measures are not taken in time.
