Congress MLA Shivaganga Basavaraj has appealed to media houses, influencers and the general public not to spread rumours that can affect the reputation of Dharmasthala in view of the alleged body burial case.

“A lot of news stories are coming out in the mainstream media and social media about the alleged burials or exhuming of some bodies in the forests near Dharmasthala. It is affecting the reputation of the religious and social institutions in the holy place,” he told reporters in Davangere on Sunday.

Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Veerendra Heggade is involved in social service activities, women’s empowerment and farmers welfare.

“Such activities are supplementary to the social welfare being taken up by the governments. No one should forget this. The Special investigation team should be allowed to function independently. But the current situation is distressing,” he said.

The MLA sought action against those spreading rumours against Dharmasthala.
