A special team of the Coimbatore District Police has arrested a man from West Bengal from his native in connection with the murder of a construction worker at Pollachi recently.
Pramatha Biswas, 45, who is from Betai village in Nadia district in West Bengal, was arrested by a special team headed by R. Gowtham, sub-inspector of the Pollachi Town (East) police station.
The police were on the lookout for Biswas and three others in connection with the murder of Rakesh Das, 30, a native of Bagula in Nadia district. Das was found dead in thickets on the side of a road at Chinnampalayam near Pollachi on July 31. Ragpickers found the body, which had injuries near the right eye and on the neck.
The police registered a case under Section 194 (police to enquire and report on suicide, etc.) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and launched an investigation. Meanwhile, the post-mortem findings showed that Das was murdered.
The investigating team found out that Biswas and three others from West Bengal, who were construction workers along with Das, went at large after the murder.
The police traced Biswas to his native, where he was apprehended by the special team from his residence on August 8. When questioned, he confessed to have murdered Das, along with three others, in a brawl. The special team produced Biswas before a magistrate and he was brought to Pollachi on Saturday night, after obtaining a prisoner transit warrant.
According to the police, sudden provocation in a brawl over purchase of liquor led to the murder. The Pollachi Town police, who recorded the arrest of Biswas on Sunday, are on the lookout for the three others. Â
