B. Syed Ali Sahana, 9, of Narimedu and S. Asikraja, 3, of Karuppayoorani drowned in a quarry pit at Pandiankottai under Karuppayoorani police station limits near Madurai on Sunday.
The police said that Sahana, daughter of Buhari, had gone to her grandmother Rasool Beevi’s house in Pandiankottai.
Along with her cousin Asikraja and two other children Ayesha, 9, and Sabhir, 4, the children had gone for bathing to the quarry pit near Rasool Beevi’s house without informing their parents.
As they started to enjoy the water, they slowly treaded into the deeper parts of the pit and started to drown as they did not know swimming.
As the children went missing from the home, Asikraja’s mother Fatima had gone in search for them in the pit.
She was shocked to find the children struggling in the water and jumped into the pit and managed to pull out Ayesha and Sabhir. However, the two other children, drowned and died.
The bodies have been taken to Government Rajaji Hospital. Karuppayoorani police are investigating.
