A total of 23,961.22 tonnes of solid waste were removed from the two zones between July 16 and August 10, according to data released by the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) on Monday.
From July 16 to 31, 2025, Royapuram Zone (V) and Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar Zone (VI) collected totally 16,113.79 metric tonnes of solid waste. From August 1 to 10, 7,847.43 tonnes of trash were collected by GCC through a private firm roped in for conservancy work.
The release stated that from 10 p.m. on August 11, an intensive cleaning drive in both zones, with 1,000 additional conservancy workers, along with necessary vehicles and equipment, would be held. Officials were appointed ward-wise to supervise the work, GCC added.
