Minister for Information Technology and Digital Services Palanivel Thiaga Rajan handing over ration products to a beneficiary in Madurai on Tuesday.
Following the launch of Thayumanavar scheme by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin in Chennai, Minister for Information Technology and Digital Services Palanivel Thiaga Rajan launched it and handed over ration products to the public here.
The scheme aimed at delivering ration products at the doorstep of senior citizens and differently abled persons across the State.
On Tuesday, Mr. Palanivel Thiaga Rajan visited beneficiaries’ homes in Subramaniapuram to distribute ration supplies.
The scheme targets senior citizens aged 70 and above and differently abled persons holding family ration cards.
Collector K.J. Praveen Kumar speaking about the scheme said Madurai district has a total of 1,389 fair price shops with over 70,311 differently abled and elderly beneficiaries.
The shops are divided into 725 groups. By choosing important shops among the groups, about 60 ration cards would be earmarked for distribution of products.
The essential commodities from ration shops are delivered at the doorstep of beneficiaries on the second Saturday and Sunday of every month.
Madurai Corporation Commissioner Chitra Vijayan among others were present at the event.
