Animal right activists staged a protest at Connaught Place on Tuesday opposing the Supreme Court’s order, which mandates the shifting of stray dogs from streets to shelter homes in eight weeks.
The Delhi police detained about 15 activists following a scuffle between police personnel and protesters. “They [protesters] did not seek any police permission,” said an officer.
Meanwhile, the police also registered a case against the activists who took to streets near India Gate on Monday criticising the top court’s order. The FIR accessed byThe Hinduhas not mentioned any names of individuals.
A case has been registered under Section 223 (offence of disobedience to an order duly promulgated by a public servant) of the BNS. “We had asked the protesters not to gather at India Gate, but they did not listen to us and staged a protest. When we tried to remove them, they manhandled the staff, and some of them even pushed our lady constables,” said an officer.
