The TNHB Colony Main Roadis an important road for motorists bound for Velachery as it links with the bypass. The residents of Adambakkam and Maduvankarai, use the TNHB Colony Main Road to reach the bypassas the Velachery Main Road at Checkpost would be heavily choked with traffic during peak hours.

The main road running along the north side of the Velachery Lake has become congested with traffic because of the presence of private schools in the locality and numerous commercial establishments coming up on one side of the road.

At present, the Chennai Corporation is constructing a storm water drain network along with compound wall on the northern side of the lake as the water body does not have a bund on this side like the bund on the southern side.

The drain and compound wall are being constructed to prevent rain water from flooding the locality. However, the construction of the drain network along with unauthorised parking of vehicles on the main road causes severe inconveniences to motorists during morning and evening peak hours.

T. Anand, a resident of TNHB Colony, said the main road had become narrow due to construction material for the drain project being dumped on one side, and unauthorised parking of vehicles by visitors to shops on the other side. “These together cause traffic bottlenecks. Small buses are being operated on this road towards Adambakkam, but if any bus or heavy vehicle comes in the opposite direction the entire traffic comes to a halt because of the unauthorised parking of vehicles,” he said.

Even if motorists manage to pass through the congested road, they are forced to wait at the signal at the Velachery bypass, as they get only 20 seconds to cross that point.
