Ramanathapuram district Superintendent of Police G. Chandeesh handed over Rs.25 lakh worth mobile phones to the owners here on Wednesday.
As about 582 mobile phones were handed over to the concerned owners in 2024, 300 mobile phones were handed over to the owners in 2025.
In addition, 100 more were given to the complainants who had lost their mobile phones to thefts and other reasons.
During the event, Mr. Chandeesh informed the public to be cautious about calls demanding personal details and other information about bank accounts.
Also, only the customer care numbers authorized by the banks should be used to register complaints or for any other queries, he added.
“Also public should not fall prey to gaming applications and software promising monetary profits. People should also refrain from depositing money for online jobs in return,” he said.
In the name of chit funds, there were crime syndicates operating to swindle the deposited money. “Though several crimes have been registered regarding chit fund organisations siphoning off crores of rupees, people continue to believe and deposit money for bigger returns,” he noted.
Such crimes could be prevented only if the public become aware of the techniques employed by fraudsters in cheating people, Mr. Chandeesh said.
