The Central government has approved the establishment of Kamdhenu Veterinary College at Himatnagar under Kamdhenu University. The institution will offer 80 seats in Bachelor of Veterinary Science (B.VSc) and Animal Husbandry programmes, with admissions for the 2025–26 academic year set to begin next month through NEET scores.
The Himatnagar facility will be Gujarat’s fifth veterinary college, joining institutions in Anand, Navsari, Junagadh, and Dantiwada. The proposal, submitted by the State government, received approval from the Veterinary Council of India (VCI) after a detailed inspection earlier this year.
Faculty recruitment complete
Spread over 23 acres, the state-of-the-art campus will offer modern infrastructure, high-quality education at government-prescribed fees, and residential facilities for students. Faculty recruitment is complete, with one principal, four professors, seven associate professors, 34 assistant professors, and 23 non-teaching staff appointed.
Officials said that Gujarat was the only State in the country to have developed facilities such as health cards for livestock, Pashu Arogya Mela, and cataract surgeries for animals. This new college will further advance this initiative in the future, they said.
