Residents of Credence Flora at Begur were shocked to find a human skull and bones in one of the percolation pits in the apartment complex at Mico Layout in Bengaluru while cleaning the site on June 16.
Based on a complaint by Skariya John, president of the resident welfare association (RWA), Begur police have registered a case of un-natural death, and sent the skull and bones for forensic analysis.
The police are awaiting a report from the experts, which could provide more details, including the age of the deceased.
In his complaint, Mr. John said that the RWA had given a contract to clean up 16 percolation pits in the apartment.
While cleaning one of the pits, the workers found the human remains. They alerted Mr. John, who informed the police.
“Going by the recovery of the skull, it looks like the incident might have happened many years ago. It was very surprising how the RWA or the residents did not get not get to know about it,” a police officer said.
In his complaint, Mr. John stated that the percolation pits were not working, which attracted notices from the authorities concerned. Hence, the RWA decided to clean the pits to make them usable.
