The national tricolour will be hoisted on an estimated 40 lakh houses as part of the BJP’s ongoing campaign to encourage people to do so on the occasion of the Independence Day celebrations, said party State president N. Ramchander Rao on Thursday.

Participating in the rally organised from Necklace Road to B.R. Ambedkar statue near the Secretariat as part of the programme here, he said it is a great initiative by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to promote national unity, dignity, integrity and patriotism. He pointed out that the campaign is to instil a sense of patriotism in the hearts of citizens.

Mr. Rao claimed that a wave of patriotism has swept across the State and the country as the campaign is being taken up with great fanfare to commemorate the 79th Independence Day. It is also the occasion to recall the sacrifices of thousands of freedom fighters and great leaders who were instrumental in achieving India’s Independence, he said.

The BJP leader accused Congress party of having “supported” the British and Pakistan in the partition of India on religious basis, which led to the country’s wealth being plundered. He made the participants take a pledge to protect India’s unity, Integrity and culture.

Mr. Rao also took part in another rally held at JNTU Kukatpally, said a press release.
