Justice B. Vijaysen Reddy of Telangana High Court on Thursday (August 14, 2025), after hearing a writ petition seeking a direction to rebuild Pedamma Ammavaru temple in MLA colony of Banjara Hills which was demolished in the early hours of July 24, directed the authorities to preserve the idol of the Ammavaru safely.

Hearing the plea filed by way of lunch motion, the judge directed the Revenue Principal Secretary, Hyderabad District Collector and Shaikpet Tahsildar to place before the court all details relating to demolition of the temple. An advocate P. Vinod Kumar Reddy from Himayathnagar, who moved the lunch motion, stated the temple was pulled down by the authorities without issuing any notices to the devotees or priests.

According to him, the temple’s sanctum sanctorum had gold ornaments, box containing money offered by devotees and other religiously important articles. The authorities did not record visuals of the demolition for evidence sake, he said. The petitioner wanted the government to reinstall the idol and rebuild the temple. The matter was posted to August 18 for next hearing.
