Collector P. Rathinasamy hoisted the national flag on the occasion of Independence Day on Friday at a function held at the District Sports Complex.

Accompanied by Superintendent of Police Vishwesh Balasubrmaniam Shastri, Mr. Rathinasamy inspected the parade and accepted the guard of honour presented by the Armed Reserve police personnel. He then released pigeons and balloons on the occasion.

The Collector presented welfare assistance worth ₹2.63 crore to 53 beneficiaries from various departments and felicitated 200 government officials and staff members in recognition of their service. He presented the Green Leader Award and a cheque of ₹1 lakh each and a certificate of appreciation to the friends of Kumizhiyam Trees and Periyakurichi Government High School, presented by the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forests, Government of Tamil Nadu.

Ariyalur MLA K. Chinnappa and District Revenue Officer K. Ra. Mallika were present.

380 officials feted

In a function held at the District Sports Complex, Collector M. Thangavel hoisted the national flag on the occasion of the 79th Independence Day in Karur on Friday.

Travelling on a decorated open vehicle, he inspected and accepted the guard of honour by the Armed Reserve police personnel. Superintendent of Police K. Josh Thangaiah accompanied the Collector.

He presented shawls to the heirs of 62 freedom fighters as a mark of recollecting their service to the freedom struggle. He distributed certificates of appreciation to 380 officers and staff members of various departments in recognition of their service.

Later, Mr. Thangavel participated in the grama sabha held at Baganathan and interacted with the residents of the village.
