Six men were killed and one was injured in a major road accident in Chhattisgarh’s Rajnandgaon district on Friday (August 15, 2025), according to the police.

The victims were travelling from Indore in Madhya Pradesh to Puri in Odisha via Chhattisgarh when the multi purpose vehicle (MPV) they were in hit a road divider and vaulted over it to collide with a truck coming from the opposite direction near Chirchari village on the Raipur-Nagpur National Highway around 5.30 p.m., said a police officer.

The officer added that the driver, Sagar Yadav, had been driving non stop for over 12 hours and may have lost control because he was sleepy and said that it was raining in the area when the accident occurred. The officer, however, ruled out inebriation.

He said that while five people were killed on the spot, one was declared dead at the hospital. Five of the deceased have been identified as Akash Maurya, Govind Punamchand, Aman Rathore, and Nitin Yadav [all from Madhya Pradesh] and Sangram Kesari from Neelkantpur in Odisha. Their ages ranged from late twenties to early thirties.

The injured Mr. Yadav had been discharged by the evening, said Rajnandgaon SP Mohit Garg.
