A 23-year-old migrant worker died, and another is in a critical condition, after falling from an elevated track of the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) at Perumbakkam in the early hours of Friday.
A group of contract workers was engaged in installing the tracks on Semmozhi Salai, when two of them, Bikee Paswan and Santosh Lohara, both aged 23 and from Jharkhand, slipped from the elevated structure about 60 feet tall, the police said.
Both suffered severe head and body injuries. Other workers immediately alerted the police. The two workers were rushed to a hospital in Perumbakkam. Paswan was declared brought dead, while Lohara remains in the ICU, the police said.
The Semmencherry police have registered a case and are questioning the site engineer and supervisors.
