The Chief Minister’s Award for the best performing local bodies was presented to Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar (6) and Adyar (13) zones under the Greater Chennai Corporation on Friday. The first prize included ₹30 lakh in cash and the second prize, ₹20 lakh.
The award for the best-performing local bodies — presented during the Independence Day celebrations every year — was instituted to motivate local bodies to perform better and foster a competitive spirit in service delivery.
The first prize for zone 6 followed the completion of development works at ₹3.67 crore, and commencement of projects worth ₹1.42 crore. The works include a playground, gyms, bus shelters, an anganwadi building, and multipurpose community halls.
