RAMANATHAPURAM
The 79th Independence Day celebrations were marked by honouring freedom fighters and distribution of benefits to the needy people in Ramanathapuram district on Friday.
Unfurling the national flag, District Collector Simranjeet Singh Kahlon took the salute and inspected a guard of honour. He distributed welfare assistance to the tune of ₹84.29 lakh to 80 people on the occasion. He also gave away appreciation certiifcates to 304 personnel from various government departments and public for rendering yeomen services during the year.
The I-Day also witnessed a colourful presentation of dance and among other events organised by the government schools and children from the NCC, NSS and other units in schools and colleges.
Ramanathapuram Range DIG of Police Pa Moorthy, SP G Chandeesh, District Forest Officer Hemalatha, Additional Collector Divyan Shenegan, District Revenue Officer R Govindarajulu, RDO Raja Manoharan and others participated.
Sivaganga

Sivaganga Collector K. Porkodi hoisted the national flag and inspected the guard of honour accompanied by SP Shiva Prasad.
The Collector gave away benefits to the tune of ₹4.22 lakh to 10 beneficiaries on the occasion and honoured freedom fighters and their legal heirs marking the I-day celebrations.
A total of 300 employees from different departments were recognised with an appreciation certificate each for their commendable service. Around 300 children from government and private schools displayed a variety entertainment programme.
MLA P R Senthil Nathan, Devakottai Sub-Collector Ayush Venkat Vats, DRO S Selvasurabhi, Project Director (DRDA) G Arvind, PA (general) M Muthukazhuvan and other officers participated.
Theni

Theni Collector Ranjith Singh hoisted the national flag and took the salute organised by the armed reserve police personnel accompanied by SP Sneha Priya. After presenting welfare assistance to 47 beneficiaries to the tune of ₹67.60 lakh, the Collector honoured the freedom fighters and their families on the occasion.
The Theni district administration presented meritorious certificates to 238 persons from various government departments for their yeomen services during the year.
A colorful display of cultural events was presented by over 370 children from schools in the district. The public applauded the participants. Senior officials including Sub Collector Rajat Beden, Project Director Abida Hanif and among others participated.
Dindigul

Dindigul District Collector S Saravanan unfurled the national flag from the district playground campus on Friday amidst applause and releasing of tri-colour balloons on the occasion.
Later, he inspected a guard of honour accompanied by Superintendent of Police A Pradeep. The grand occasion marked honouring of freedom fighters and their families.
The Collector presented appreciation certificates to the government employees and those from the community for meritorious services.
The Mahatma Gandhi Statue in the School Education Department premises was illuminated and the Collector garlanded the statue.
Welfare assistance was given away to 109 people to the tune of ₹2.20 crore. The cultural events received a big round of applause from the gathering as over 250 children presented multiple programmes based on popular national songs.
Senior officials led by DRO R Jayabharathi, Project Director Thilagavathi, AC (Training) S Vinodhini Parthiban and among others participated in the I-Day celebrations.
TNSTC General Manager A. Muthukrishnan hoisted the national flag at the TNSTC office and presented certificates to 15 drivers and 15 conductors for accident-free driving and for earning highest revenue from tickets. The TNSTC managers honoured crew members Eswaran, Satyamurthi and Gopinath for their honesty in handing over the valuables to the rightful owners, who had travelled in the buses. The GM gave away cash awards to the tune of ₹51,500 to 42 children who had successfully passed and scored higher marks in the 10th and plus two exams, a press release said.
Virudhunagar

Virudhunagar District Collector N. O. Sukhaputhra hoisted the national flag and took the salute from a special vehicle at the 79th Independence Day celebrations in Virudhunagar. The Collector inspected the guard of honour flanked by Superintendent of Police Kannan.
The district administration honoured employees for their skills and services which ranged from accident-free driving from the police department, rendering assistance to pilgrims in Saduragiri hills and among others. The Collector presented certificates to 258 personnel on the occasion.
District Revenue Officer R. Rajendran, Deputy Director (Megamalai Tiger Reserve) Devaraj, Project Director V. Kesavadasan and Sivakasi Sub-Collector Mohamed Irfan and among others participated.
Children from various schools in the district presented cultural programmes.
