The southwest monsoon rain that had been lashing parts of Kerala is likely to continue a couple of days more under the influence of the low pressure formed over the Bay of Bengal on Sunday (August 17, 2025).
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Kannur and Kasaragod on Monday (August 18, 2025) where very heavy rainfall is likely, while a yellow alert has been issued for Wayanad, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Palakkad, Thrissur, Ernakulam and Idukki warning of isolated heavy rains for the day.

The presence of strong westerlies over Kerala fuelled by the low-pressure area is expected to cause widespread rains across parts of central and north Kerala for the next few days. The rainfall activity will likely see a reduction in tune with the weakening of the low-pressure system.
Meanwhile, Padinjarathara in Wayanad recorded the highest rainfall of 13 cm during the last 24 hours ending at 8.30 a.m. on Monday, followed by Vythiri and Ambalavayal in Wayanad with 9 cm each, Munnar in Idukki, Thalassery and Ayyankunnu in Kannur and Panathur in Kasaragod with 7 cm each.
