Infamous gangster Salman Tyagi, facing charges under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA), was found dead inside his cell in Delhi’s Mandoli Jail on Saturday, the police said.
Tyagi was discovered hanging from a noose made with a bedsheet in Jail No. 15 on Saturday morning, when prison staff found his body.
The police said he had multiple criminal cases against him, including murder and extortion, and was booked under MCOCA. Sources said he was previously associated with the Neeraj Bawana gang but had recently switched allegiance to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
To prove his loyalty, he allegedly orchestrated an extortion attempt on two Delhi businessmen, following which the Crime Branch arrested two shooters, Deepanshu and Moinuddin.
Police are now investigating whether Tyagi’s death was a case of suicide or if foul play was involved.
