Chittayam Gopakumar, MLA, has been elected as CPI Pathanamthitta district secretary. Representing the Adoor Assembly constituency since 2011, he currently serves as Deputy Speaker of the Kerala Assembly.
The appointment of Mr. Gopakumar is widely seen as an attempt to bring consensus within the party’s district unit which has long been marred by factionalism. Reacting to his selection, he described the new role as a major responsibility and assured that all issues in the district would be addressed with commitment.
Meanwhile, A.P. Jayan, who had earlier been removed from the post of district secretary, has been reinstated on the district committee. Despite strong opposition from a section of the party, his return was made possible with the firm support of the State leadership.
