India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday issued red alert to Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts on August 18 and 19.
An IMD bulletin said, “Heavy to very heavy rain with sustained wind (40 to 50 kmph) likely to occur at a few places and extremely heavy rain with sustained wind (40 to 50 kmph) likely to occur at one or two places over Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts on August 18 and 19. Heavy to very heavy rain with sustained wind (40 to 50 kmph) likely to occur at one or two places over Dakshina Kannada on Monday and Tuesday.”
It said that heavy to very heavy rain with sustained wind (40 to 50 kmph) likely to occur at one or two places over Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada districts on August 17. Heavy to very heavy rain likely to occur at one or two places in the three coastal districts on August 20, the bulletin said.
Meanwhile, Dakshina Kannada received 38 mm rainfall during a 24-hour period, which ended on Saturday at 8.30 a.m., against the normal 31 mm. Udupi district recorded 37 mm rainfall during the same period.
Dakshina Kannada recorded a cumulative 3,640 mm rainfall, against the normal 2,942 mm rainfall from this January till date.
