A 64-year-old woman from Hebri in Udupi district reportedly lost her 40 gm gold chain at Mookambika temple in Kollur on Friday.

The woman has been identified as Jayanthi. She lodged a complaint with the Kollur police.

In her complaint, Jayanthi said that she came to the temple at around 12.30 p.m. with her daughter Pratima and son-in-law Dheeraj. It rained when they were standing in the queue for darshan, and Jayanthi moved along with several other devotees to take shelter at Lord Veerabhadra temple on the Kollur temple premises.

Jayanthi was caught in the rush of devotees. When the rain subsided, the crowd dispersed and Jayanthi returned to the place where her relatives were standing. She then noticed that the gold chain she was wearing had been stolen.

Based on Jayanthi’s complaint, the Kollur police registered a case of theft under section 303 (2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
