The Federation of All Traders Associations in Kumbakonam and the Thanjavur District Vanigar Sangangalin Peramaippu has exhorted the electorate of Kumbakonam Assembly Constituency to exercise their franchise in favour of ‘NOTA’ in the forthcoming elections to Assembly in protest against the neglect of the demands of the people of Kumbakonam.

A resolution passed at a meeting held at Kumbakonam on Wednesday, August 20, regretted that the long-pending demand of formation of a new revenue district with Kumbakonam as its headquarters had not been considered by political parties that came to power in the State ever since the demand surfaced from the region a few decades ago.

The DMK, in its election manifesto in 2021, had announced that Kumbakonam would be made a district once the party returned to power. The assurance had not been implemented yet, it said.

Expressing dissent over the attitude of major political parties towards the long-pending demand of the Kumbakonam Assembly Segment electorate, the Federation and the Peramaippu said they would embark on a campaign for ‘NOTA’ in the forthcoming Legislative Assembly elections as the demand had not been considered positively and urged the Kumbakonam Assembly Segment electorate to cast their votes in favour of ‘NOTA’.

The meeting also registered its dissent over the inordinate delay in the formation of Needmangalam-Kumbakonam-Jayankondam-Virudhachalam railway line formation.
