Karnataka rain: Almatti dam outflow increases

Authorities in Karnataka issued a warning to farmers and fishermen in villages along the river Krishna and its tributaries following increased outflow from the Almatti dam on August 17.

‘”Considering heavy Rainfall in upper catchment area and discharge from Krishna river (Kallol Barrage)and Ghataprabha river (Lolasur bridge), inflow to Almatti dam is likely to increase. Hence, outflow to river will be gradually increased from present 70,000 cusecs to 1,00,000 cusecs,” officials informed.

Discharge from Maharashtra reached 54,241 cusecs, over 10,774 cusecs more than that on August 16.

The water level in the Lal Bahadur Shastri reservoir on the Krishna at Almatti was 120.4 tmcft,, or 97% of its capacity. The inflow was over 33,968 cusecs and outflow was around 1,00,000 cusecs. The inflow of Hippargi barrage was 43,500 cusecs and outflow was 35,157 cusecs.

Raja Lakhamagouda reservoir on the Ghataprabha river at Hidkal had an inflow of 13,480 cusecs, and an outflow of 2,673 cusecs. The dam had around 50.2 tmcft of water against its capacity of 51 tmcft.

Renuka Sagar dam on the Malaprabha river had an inflow of 3,281 cusecs and outflow of 1,194 cusecs. The dam had 34 tmcft of water against its capacity of 37 tmcft.
