Kapil Bainsla wins junior air pistol gold

Kapil Bainsla won the air pistol gold in the junior men’s event by beating Ilkhombek Obidjonov of Uzbekistan by 0.6 point in the 16th Asian shooting championship in Shymkent, Kazakhstan, on Monday.

Qualification top scorer, Jonathan Antony (582) won the bronze.

In men’s air pistol, Amit Sharma and Varun Tomar shot high scores of 588 and 584, but they could not fight for medals as they were in the RPO section. In the regular event, Anmol Jain alone made the final with a score of 580 and eventually placed sixth.

India did win the team silver in both the men’s and junior events behind China and Korea respectively.

There was some cheer for India in the youth section, with Girish Gupta and Dev Pratap winning the gold and silver respectively, and fetching a team silver as well behind Iran.
