Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Sunny Joseph has sought a high-level probe into the recurring instances of bridges collapsing in the State.

He was addressing the media on Monday (August 18) after visiting the Thorayikadavu under-construction bridge near Koyilandy in Kozhikode district, which collapsed on August 14. Mr. Joseph said that two labourers had lost their lives when another under-construction bridge collapsed in Alappuzha district two weeks ago.

Around three years ago, the Koolimad bridge near Mukkom in Kozhikode collapsed. Though an inquiry was instituted into the incident, nothing came of it. Mr. Joseph said that Minister for Public Works P.A. Mohamed Riyas cannot shirk his responsibility over these incidents.

He said that, along with a proper investigation into the bridge collapse at Thorayikadavu, its reconstruction should also begin at the earliest. Shafi Parambil, MP, and Kozhikode District Congress Committee president K. Praveenkumar were present.
