Three women among four dead in fire at electronics store in Delhi

A massive fire at an electronics shop in west Delhi’s Raja Garden claimed the lives of four persons, including three women, on Monday (August 18, 2025), the police said. 

The deceased worked at Mahajan Electronics, on the first floor of a four-storey building, where the blaze broke out. According to the police, the showroom of the store is on the ground floor. The first floor, where the fire started, was used as a godown.

A senior Delhi Fire Services (DFS) official said the incident was reported at 3:08 p.m., and the firefighting operations were called off at 4:10 p.m. 

“The caller informed us about a fire breaking out in an electronics shop located in a multi-storey building and some people being trapped inside. We rushed five fire tenders to the site,” the official said.

“We received the distress call at the Moti Nagar police station around 3 p.m. The SHO and his team reached the spot immediately while the fire services personnel launched rescue operations,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Vichitra Veer.

The DCP added that upon reaching the spot, the team found that five persons were trapped inside the shop. 

“All of them were brought out and rushed to a hospital. However, four of them succumbed to their injuries, while one is undergoing treatment,” said Mr. Veer.

Another officer said, “As per the initial investigation, the fire broke out due to a short circuit on the first floor of the building. The blaze then quickly spread to the second floor.”

The deceased have been identified as Aayushi, 22, Payal, 20, Amandeep Kaur, 22, and Ravi, 28. 

Eyewitness account

Sumit, an eyewitness and employee of Mahajan Electronics, was having lunch with his colleagues at the time of the incident. 

“It was lunch hour. Suddenly, people noticed fumes and started rushing out of the building. However, we later heard that our co-workers in the store could not step out in time,” said Mr. Sumit.
