The recent depression over the Bay of Bengal has brought much-needed relief to Visakhapatnam, boosting seasonal rainfall and alleviating drought-like conditions. Until last week, the district was grappling with low rainfall and declining groundwater levels.

Thanks to the system, Visakhapatnam received abundant showers. According to the AP Water Resources Information & Management System (APWRIMS), the district recorded 433.53 mm of rainfall from June 1 to August 19—15.89% higher than the expected 374.1 mm. Out of eight mandals in the district, five recorded excess rainfall. Anandapuram, Bheemili, Gajuwaka, Pendurthi, and Visakhapatnam Urban were the most benefitted, seeing rainfall levels above normal.
